New
Benches At Pool & Playground From Eagle Scout Project
As
part of his Eagle Scout project, David Santacrose, along with numerous
other parents and helpers, installed eight new benches at the GPOA swimming
pool and playground. David first contacted the GPOA Board of Directors
back in March with his offer. The benches were put in through a total
volunteer effort and is greatly appreciated. David has shown us what
community spirit is all about. On behalf of the community we would
like to extend our sincere thanks. I'm sure the mothers and fathers
will appreciate the benches as they watch their young children play.
Budget
Cutbacks Now Required
We have been warning everyone in almost every
newsletter that too many households are behind on their annual dues
and it would affect our bottom line if not
corrected. Well, that time has come. The Board of
Directors met on July 6th to review the budget and
income. With 78 homes still not paying dues we are
approximately $7400 short of our budget projections. With that shortage
we are now looking at areas to cut back on. The first area the Board
decided to cut was GPOA sponsored community activities, such as the pool
parties and other get-togethers. The next area is the pool since
it is the most expensive portion of our budget. The Board voted to
immediately begin closing the pool every Tuesday
and to continue looking at the finances in more detail and, if needed,
consider more cuts.
Upon further
review of our those finances subsequent to the July meeting it was determined
the previous cuts were not going to be enough. Furthermore, if we
were to be able to make mandatory payments for the Association
(electricity,
contractual payments, etc.) a priority of the remaining budget items would
be needed. In order to meet the shortfall the following items will
be in effect.
Close
pool entirely 15 Aug
Closed
on Mondays and Tuesdays until 15 August
Open pool
1 hr later at 2 PM
Close
pool 1 hr earlier at 8 PM
Additionally,
we are cutting back several maintenance categories in the budget, such
as basketball/tennis courts and pool maintenance expenses by $4240.
The only way the original schedule can be reinstated is if
people who have not paid their dues (which they agreed to by contract when
they purchased their homes) pay. It's now up to you who have not
paid. When you speak to your neighbor your first question should
be, "Have you paid your dues yet?"
